I want to go down the Hagwon route, but my school unfortunately takes MONTHS to mail out our degrees. I'll say, most graduates receive their degree in August or September when graduation is in mid-late June.

So, would it be OK for me to just go to my school's office and get some type of paper that says, "Yes, oceanhue completed her BA but we haven't mailed off physical copies yet".

If I can't, I'll have to stay near campus for a few months and then move, but I would rather take off to Korea a week or two after graduation.

In a lot of countries, especially in Asia, you need the actual parchment in your hot hands. It is an immigration requirement for the visa and NOT an employer issue. "Letters" don't cut it.

We are not supposed to discuss Korea here on the international boards (go register for the Korean forums) but...

In the specific case of Korea not only do you need the actual degree in your possession but you need to get a certified true copy made and have an apostille attached to it.

For LEGAL work in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia to name a few others specifically, you will also need the actual, physical degree for immigration before they will issue the proper visas and/or permits.

Patience. There will be lots of jobs when you are ready.

I had the same issue when preparing to go to China in 2010. I contacted my school and told them what was going on, and they expedited my diploma printing. I don't remember if I paid extra for that or not. Generally colleges will want their graduates to be employed, and if you say "Hey, I have a job offer but need my diploma to be able to accept it" they might be willing to work out something with you.

a scanned copy of your degree/diploma will usually suffice
to obtain a legal work visa for china.

Hmm, I'm not sure if my school would actually do that though. They can be pretty merciless most of the time. I'll be sure to ask them about the process once school is in session.

That's what I feared. Shoot. I'm not sure how to entertain myself for three months. Maybe I should just take the GRE then to get it out the way.

Means that an applicant still needs the actual parchment to have been awarded - still physically needs to have the degree. Can't scan what doesn't exist yet.
