Oh and Ben Round,
Yes, I was just funning about your digs, I should be so lucky. I guess my on-line tongue and cheek delivery needs work.

All you posts have been thoughtful and informative.
Adios

WoW BEN,
Merida is an expensive city!
My property tax was 120 pesos this year! (my lot is probably smaller than yours though) My gas and electicity is less, but there are just two of us. For water we pay 50 every six months (it unmetered, everyone pays the same amount.)

MELEE,

I don't think of Merida as an inexpensive Mexican city in which to live. When one considers what most EFL teachers earn here, it seems even worse. Decent safe housing with affordable rent is getting harder and harder to find. Public transportation is expensive in Merida compared to most other cities. Food and clothing aren't cheap either. Still, with the right job (or jobs) and the ability to manage on a tight budget, it's possible to survive on one's earnings as an EFL teacher.
