I'll admit riding a bike in Bangkok is challenging, but riding one in Riyadh would truly be suicidal. Best make sure you have medical insurance because you will end up in the hospital sooner or later, if you choose to ride a bike in Riyadh.
Having said that there are bike shops here and yes you could probably manage to get one.
Good luck with that |

If you want to do it properly, you will have to get a motorbike driving license. Don't know what the procedure entails.
If you just want to get a cheap Chinese scooter, you can go ahead and get it without a license (license is required, but shops selling those scooters ignore that requirement and sell to anybody). But, it is against the law to ride a motorbike without the special license, so keep that it mind. Of course if you want to get a high performance sports bike (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc) or a touring bike (Harley, Honda, BMW, etc), you will definitely be asked to produce the license at the dealership.
Either way, riding any kind of motorbike would be pretty crazy in any urban center in Saudi. |

I've never heard of this school. Has anyone?
Also, I tried to search for Al Jawdah Private School in Riyadh and came up with nothing. Seems a little suspicious (from the school's side not the poster)...
DMPT, where are they located in Riyadh? Do you have a website or email address for them? How did this job come about? |

Thanks.
My TEFL and TESOL certs. are 120 hour (4 week) language mill certs. by respected and certified institutions in Thailand, but would hold very little water outside of the country.
How barren a life is it living on $700 a month (in order to save $2000)?

| best get confirmation that you would recieve a proper working visa(igama) This is very important!!!!! |
Is this done before arrival from an Embassy overseas? And is it 12 months in length? (ie. you know that you're good for 12 month visa wise before you arrive)?
Spousal visa for my (Thai) wife, do they exist for those working there on a 'igama' visa?
Cheers. |
An iqama is not a visa, but it is an ID card that all people legal to live and work in KSA carry. In order to get one you have to be on a "work visa" and that involves significant expense and time on your part, at least initially. By Saudi law all employers must reimburse all visa related costs, including agent fees, the visa fee itself and the medical exam fees.
Once you arrive in KSA you then get a second medical exam in the country. Depends on the country you are from, you may be required to surrender your passport even after receipt of the iqama. If you are given some kind of other visa, ALL of which say, "Not Permitted to Work", then under no circumstances do you allow an employer to hold your passport. If you are working on one of those illegal visas then you need your passport if you ever find it in your best interests to run away. |
