Less than a month to go before I'm back on the west coast of Canadia slurpin' sushi and Warthog beer under the Douglas firs as the freezing cold pacific ocean numbs my happy little toes...

Anyone else going anywhere?

I might be leaving Turkey in August so I intend to spend June and July working and saving as much as possible. No holidays for me Sad

Where will you go in august, Mike? Any concrete plans? Are you planning to take time off to recover from Turkey or will you move onwards immediately?

I don't really have anywhere to take time off, so I plan to just move on immediately. I could go back to the UK for a while, but I can't see what purpose it would serve other than to sap my savings. I went back in April anyway.

I want to stay in Europe so I expect I'll give somewhere in Eastern Europe a try. Romania would be a challenge, but a few of the new EU states take my fancy too; especially Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.

It's a tricky decision. Romanian is an easier language (I already know some) and learning the local language is particularly important to me because I like to be able to operate independantly. I've also visited the country a few times and have a few friends there who would help me get set up. However, teaching jobs are scarce and the economy dreadful but I've always liked a challenge... Smile

As an EU citizen, the other three would be far easier; no need for tricky visa or work permits, more of an ex-pat community, more job opportunities, and better economies.

I've enjoyed my time in Turkey and there are so many things I like about being here. I enjoy what I do and I earn more than enough money to live on comfortably, I know the culture and the language, the weather is great and the people (mostly) fine. I just feel that it's time to make a few changes. I'm not ruling out a return in the future, though.

Mike
