I will have my B.S degree in biology by january and will acheive my Celta certificate in february. I was wondering if this is enough to find work in a saudi univerity as an esl teacher or to work in a private language institute in saudi.

Why scot? When I was at UOH, there were ESL instructors with Bachelor's degrees as their terminal degree (one, even in Phys. Ed.!). There are plenty of Bachelor's holders working as ESL instructors in higher education institutions across the country.

aimhigh, once you work in KSA, you will change your username to amihigh(?)...!

I dont know if you are male or female, but you can for sure work at PNU if youre a woman.

When I was there I worked with women that had degrees in Art with the major being pottery. I had some drama majors as well as a few PE majors; they all got a CELTA or TEFL and thats all she wrote.

You will not get a direct hire but you should be able to get something. I think you will need some experience for most jobs but you may luck up and fall through the cracks.

Do you have any paid teaching experience? If not, you'll find it difficult to get even a nibble from the various sketchy contracting companies. Given your minimal qualifications, you might reconsider your options as to which countries you can get a teaching job in.

Why is there different advice? And how do people find work in saudi with a bach in drama and teach at a university. from my research online it says most saudi universities want a bach in english and tefl with 1-2 years experience.

Dear aimhigh,

I think a lot may depend on how unscrupulous and downright dishonest a recruiter/contractor may be.

For some, if you're breathing with fair regularity, they'll pad your "qualifications."

Dear lynnknows,

A major in POTTERY Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy. I LOVE it.

Regards,
John

Dear aimhigh,

Please excuse my pedantry - but it's called EFL when you teach English in a country where English isn't the native language.

Yup - nineteen years worth, not continuous, though. I took occasional breaks in a vain attempt to preserve my sanity. Very Happy

Regards,
John
