How lucrative is IELTS examining in China?
How easy or difficult is it to get into?
Any info greatly appreciated. |

There's definitely IETLS exam work in China. There's an IELTS test centre in pretty much every major city.
I once met a teacher who used to do IELTS exam work and hated it. They said that while the pay sounds good at first, there's a lot of 'at home work', but I don't know how true this is.

The training to become an examier lasts four days. I think you must have a degree, teaching experience (to adults) and a TEFL qualification like CELTA or CertTESOL. |

I do it in one of the major cities here. The pay is fantastic and work has never been more plentiful. You'd begin as a Speaking examiner, and after time and success become a Writing examiner. Doing the two jobs could net you more than 13 000 RMB a month for max 10 days work. It's not particularly varied work, but we've all done far worse jobs.
at least two years post-decent ESL qualification is required, but all info is on the site
there's no take home work that I know of - IELTS is far too strict about security to ever allow anything to leave the official premises! |

I was told you can make UP TO 2,500 just on the weekends doing IELTS examining.
Is this for real or baloney? |

If it sounds too good to be true...

It wasnt from the same person who told you that native speakers can earn 1000's of RMB per hour for privates as well?
2,500 a weekend is mile off the pace ... I've never done IELTS work, but if this money was on offer in China all the MA holders who head to the ME and put up with harsh living conditions and culture would be in China working weekends. |

Yeah I thought it was unrealistic - it's just what the guy who wants to hire me for a uni gig told me. That's why I came on here to verify it.
I had heard that you could make a ton of money IELTS examining in China but clearly it is not as much as people make out. |

| Where do you guys get your information from? An IELTS Examiner is not aloowed to discuss any aspect of his work with a non-Examiner. Go to the British Council website and make enquiries there. |
