Dear rdobbs98,

"I hold my fellow Muslims to a higher standard because they should do better."

And so should we all - Muslims, Christians Buddhists, Jews, atheists, agnostics, etc.

But the sad fact is we often don't. And in all my travels in many lands, I've found about the same percentage of good, decent people - and bad, lazy, ignorant, racist, etc. - people everywhere, regardless of what religion they practice or if they practice none.

In my opinion, it's unrealistic to "hold _________ to a higher standard." (Fill in any nationality, religion, etc.)

Regards,
John

It turns out no need to stamp TESL certificates, that from the government of Canada, where I did my TEFL training. They don't authenticate those and the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission doesn't in the US nor does the Embassy of Canada.

Yep, their instructions specify (completed) university/college degrees only---no graduate-level certs or TEFL certs.

But apparently, the SACM likes to steal money though. I get told by the processor that you don't have to pay for processing though the original person told me to pay $8 per page, so I had $40 stolen by the Saudi Cultural Mission and even with a receipt, lie to say nothing was sent in. So I guess they are no better here than in KSA.

Wow, it's only $32. Moreover, the problem started at your end by not looking carefully at what you were expected to submit; you have to take some responsibility in this. Also, the SACM person who took the money order out of your packet may have simply deposited it because...well, that's what they do with money orders they receive because they expect applicants to have followed instructions.

Not to beat you up with this---I empathize with you. We all make mistakes. But seriously, stop getting heated over this issue; it's not healthy and is taking your energy away from other things, such as completing your tasks. Besides, many of us have lost some huge amount of money or great opportunity at some time in our lives. We kick ourselves for a bit, throw a tantrum, and then move on. Lesson learned. Life's too short. I hope you'll realize the positive experiences you'll have in Saudi Arabia (or wherever) with the people you encounter will outweigh a few crappy experiences.

rdobbs98,

I understand your feeling. I felt that same way at one time in my life. However, after living in the GCC and other Muslim countries, I no longer feel this way.

People are people first and a religion second sometimes tenth... Its all about what they value more. As a Muslims I was very disappointed with the things I saw and experienced but I had to let it slide off my back and not sweat the small stuff.
Inshaallah you will be able to do the same. I pray you enjoy your time there;get tons of blessings, and your heart is calmed after this experience.
