If you have a pension that makes all the difference. A guy I met in Peru was on disability, huge muscular body builder type about 35, but had brain surgery and couldn't do his IT job and it affected his fine motor skills, could barely write. He got 1500 usd a month, about twice what most teaching jobs pay. He was able to live very well.

Yep, that's the plan. I can choose quality of life over salary as the latter usually goes hand in hand with a poorer QOL.
