Hey guys,
Has anyone done this? Is it possible to change jobs while on probation if the correct notice is given - or does one have to leave the country for a set time if resign during probation.
Help please. |

Depends on what your contract states in regard to terminating employment during the probationary period. Plus, you may have to reimburse your current employer for expenses/allowances paid to you thus far. However, there could be a bigger issue if the job you're trying to change to is in the same emirate or country. |

A government employer can easily block you... and my purely speculative answer is that they will. Read the contract carefully... for sure you will have to reimburse them for all costs related to hiring you. (tickets, housing, visa, etc)

Here is an interesting quote from a Khaleej Times article. These are the requirements:
"1) In order to remove the ban, an employee must prove qualifications by presenting a duly attested educational certificate as mentioned herein (i) If an employee holds a university degree (master), and earns a minimum of Dh12,000 per month; (ii) If an employee holds a fiploma (post secondary) and earns a minimum of Dh7,000 per month; and (iii) If an employee has passed high school and earns a minimum of Dh5,000 per month."

If you are a direct hire with the government, the Labour Law does not apply. If you are hired by a private company, you are covered. Probation can last up to six months, and the period can be less if specified in your contract. While you are on probation, either party can cancel with no ramifications. Once probation is complete, an employer can demand 1 1/2 months' pay, but they can only deduct 10% of your pay and accrued leave plus 100% of any end of service benefit.
Also, if you have a time limited contract that provides for a notice period, you will be entitled to 3 months' pay for early termination IAW Labor Law plus whatever period of notice is in the contract. They are cumulative. Remember that the Labour Law is a floor of benefits for the employee, and the employee's rights in it cannot be contracted down. |
