I left there in June. Everything in this thread is still pretty valid IMO. Omeida and Zhuo Yue are still the main employers, and are also the ones who definitely give a legit visa. I believe a lot of teachers at other schools might be doing HK visa runs from time to time.
I have heard some talk that places like Alley Bar might be forced to raise prices, so the days of a beer and burger for 25 RMB might be coming to an end. Rents are going up a lot apparently.
Yangshuo cant be beat IMO. Lifestyle, environment, atmosphere, teaching are all great for me. Most of the foreign teachers I work with are working 2nd / 3rd contracts there, and I intend on returning next year too. Wages are stagnant there, and I do think they should rise a touch, but the whole Yangshuo package looks a lot more attractive than most big city packages IMO. |
