The "In Defense of Americans" thread has stimulated a few thoughts in my mind. Regardless of our feelings regarding other nationalities, it seems to me that most of us are very proud of our own nationalities. But what would happen if we were forced to change our nationalities? Which nationality would you pick in this scenario, and why? I have listed several different nationalities for the poll in alphabetical order; undoubtedly I have accidentally left off a few nationalities that I shouldn't have overlooked, so apologies in advance for the list. If your newly adopted nationality isn't listed, simply choose "other".
Cheers,
Kirk |

I neglected to mention my choice in the initial post...I would choose to become a Canadian! I know several Canadians both personally and professionally, and these individuals are all very friendly and outgoing with great personalities. Additionally, nearly all of the Canadians that I have met during my travels abroad were great as well. I love Canadians! I don't think I could handle actually living in Canada (I am all about warm weather!), but maybe I could have a summer home up there or something?
Cheers,
Kirk |

Finnish.
They keep to themselves. Dont bother anyone. Have a working political and economic system, a good standard of living (and loads of wood for when the oil runs out). Beautiful women and climate ... AND, most importantly, intelligent, hard-working people who speak English well and talk common sense (to me, anyway). Not quite sure about the food, though.

Changing nationality?
Almost anything except English - imagine having to become fat, pink, smelly AND stupid. |

Been there, done that.
Added a Maltese passport to my collection. It's a shame that, even though I was born there, the nationality laws of Germany prevent me from acquiring citizenship in Germany. Seems the only way I can acquire another passport is by marriage now. |

Irish.
I spent a month there about 12 years ago and loved every minute of it.

IMHO, the dumbest question I have seen posted on this forum.
What would be the circumstances that 'force' a change of nationality? A nuclear explosion that wipes out one's homeland country?

Denise, you're so deep! A whole month! And 12 years ago (I'm sure nothing has changed).

Hey TL, you can stay out of threads to which you don't care to contribute. I think this is just a good hypothetical question - maybe not if you were forced to change your nationality, but what else would you like to be? I wouldn't mind being Spanish because they're so laid - back; when I was in Spain I really felt like I had found a place I could live in for a long time, you know? And the women! |

anthyp, I'm sure others wouldn't mind if you were even a little laid back.

TL--
I'm going against my better judgment and replying to your thoroughly nasty comment.
Twelve years ago I was 16. Hardly old enough to enter the TEFL world.
Now go pick on somebody else. I've had it with you.

We have to make allowances for Teacher Lindsay.
He is so repulsive that even when masturbating, his fist says No. |

A highly hypothetical question, an equally hypothetical answer: Transylvania! |
