My doctor is pressuring my folks to make me get a shot for Japanese Endosyplhosis (or however it is spelled) according to the CDC's website it is rare and not necessary.i mean I don't plan to be wadding through any mosquito infested rice paddies, while in Japan...

My doctor is stressing that it will be Murphy's Law and I will end up dead on Nova's floor in the middle of a lesson and my students will sit there in silence until the end of the lesson and then step over my carcass as they leave to report on my lack of "proper teaching skills" to the head boss.

Well maybe not that bad, but has anyone heard of this/is it necessary/can I find some hard core info to prove that this shot is so ridiculous?
Also it cost $290 to get it!!!!!

Thanks!!!!

Don't worry. I am surrounded by rice paddies and bazillions of mosquitoes. I've never worried about it. You are talking about Japanese encephalitis or is it syphilis? Not sure from your spelling.

Oh, Japanese encephalitis-B! I had those shots before I went to Korea. I actually knew a couple of people there who had family members who contracted the disease in a large city. I have never heard of anyone here contracting it though.

Catching something at the bar is probably a far bigger threat! I recommend caution for the newbie in japan.. Wink
