Just a heads-up to folks who may consider applying to the school in the future. I worked for the school for a couple of months but had a family emergency which required my return to the UK. I gave the school notice, stayed as long as possible so as not to leave them in the lurch (2 weeks) and had to depart. I even offered to cover the cost of the air-fare for one prospective applicant that they wanted to hire and yet I still await payment from the school for November.

The staff and owners are very friendly for the most part, and obviously I was understanding that having to leave suddenly was a problem for them, it doesn't justify non-payment.

All teaching resources were returned in original condition without exception.

I don't expect to be paid by the school now but I can't, in good conscience, leave it unknown that they failed to pay for a whole month's work. Maybe this will help a teacher out in the future.

Andy

Have you thought of suing the school? Apparently, this is relatively easy to do in PL though I can't say I've done it myself.

I've heard that schools often cave even under just the threat of being taken to court.

I was foolish and hadn't signed a contract Master Shake. The owners were really friendly and accommodating for the most part and I allowed them to keep putting it off because of how busy they were.

If I had a contract I'd certainly be taking it further but I feel that without one I'd just be wasting my time.

Even easier - he doesn't have a contract, which as far as I'm aware isn't legal in Poland. It also means that he probably wasn't paying taxes - which is the school's obligation to pay for him. I'm pretty certain the school would crumble if he threatened to report the school - the tax office has the obligation to investigate if a complaint is made.

Deitus - if you're willing to make life difficult for them, let us know and we can advise you further. There are certainly lots of ways to put the pressure on Smile Do you have any proof at all (e-mails, paperwork, anything) showing you worked during November?

I've had a quick look through. A lot of communication with the school happened via the mobile phone that they provided me with while I was there and was obviously returned to them. I do have one or two emails where the owner asks to enter a class to observe and about a troublesome student. I also have a photocopy of a teacher observation document in the owner's handwriting and some messages from one of the Polish teachers on Facebook asking about division of materials.

This is just at a cursory search with me trying to avoid making too much noise and waking up relatives!!

Mountains..... Molehills

It's in the past and you are carrying useless baggage over it.

Move on and take care of business.

You'll be fine then. Does this mean that they never provided you with any documentation about paying taxes?

I also assume you were paid in cash?

No, I was paid into a bank account. The job was essentially split. Monday to Friday was one contract (which was never actually signed) and Saturdays was an EU project which I was contracted to and paid properly and on time simply because the school lives in fear of the problems the EU funded projects can cause. October's money for the Monday to Friday job was paid late but it was paid. November's never was.

So go ahead and threaten to report the school. The most damning bit of evidence you have by far is that the school wired money into your account. How stupid could they be!

No valid contract, yet they put money in your bank account? Dear oh dear... how foolish of them!

I'll talk more by PM, but needless to say - this should be pretty open and shut as far as getting the money goes. Only a shame that they're so far away from me - I'd have enjoyed a nice little roadtrip to go debt collecting Sad
