|
|
Anyone who has ever taught private lessons in KSA, I am interested to know how much you charged. Especially in Riyadh.
Also what is the rent like in Riyadh?
I am seriously considering a job in Riyadh, in which I would only have to work 4 hours a day. That would leave me plenty of time to teach private lessons, so I am trying to figure out how much I could realistically make.
Also, this job will provide a stipend to cover my rent (instead of giving me housing directly) so I need to figure out how much rent is in Riyadh.
Anyone with knowledge on this subject, I would much appreciate your help in this matter.
Thanks! |

You know, I did do a search before I posted this. But I've never been good at internet searches and I got no useful results.
These are good links, thanks.
The consensus seems to be 150-200 SAR per hour. |

Depends on the financial level of the client, but SR. 200/hr is the typical rate for the type of families who solicit one-on-one tutoring the most.
SR. 150/hr was the going rate several years ago, when I started tutoring in 2005. It has been SR. 200/hr for at least 2-3 years now.
And if you do small groups of 2-4 students, you can charge a lot more per hour. I have typically charged the following rates:
1 student: SR. 200/hr
2 students: SR. 300/hr
3 students: SR. 300/hr (did SR. 375 once)
4 students: SR. 400/hr
5 students: SR. 375/hr |

| Get the money in advance and make it clear that students have to pay even if they do not come at the appointed time ! |

^ While that may be a good rule to follow, it doesn't have to be that way. I *never* got the money in advance. In fact, I used to ask to be paid at the end of each month. I kept track in my Excel spreadsheet at home. Of course, that's for regular students. For students who called me up to have just a couple of lessons before exams, they paid me on the day of their last lesson.
Since 2005, having tutored children and adults from over 60 families, I ran into difficulty getting paid just with 2 clients. But in the end, I did get it.
EDIT: I have currently having difficulty trying to collect the SR. 1,650 owed to me by a current student. The lessons ended a couple of weeks ago, but my calls to collect money are going unanswered. However, I know how to deal with such people, and I WILL get it, just like I did with the other 2 families I have ever had trouble with. |

This is all good information, thanks.
What about the rent in Riyadh? Can anyone tell me how much you pay? I would be trying to find a place within walking distance of King Saud University. |

| In my 17 years in KSA I only ONCE took a private student. I used to earn my extras by teaching at places like ELS or LANSA in the evenings. Technically illegal, but......................... |

Nowhere is in walking distance of anywhere in Riyadh!!
BTW, you may be only teaching for 4 hours, but you will have to be onsite for 8 hours a day.
So not that much time for private students.
I charge 300sr (but that's for IELTS prep) and collect cash at end of each session. |
