I will be going to interviews in about a week and would like to know what I should watch out for. I've read that one shouldn't settle for anything less than 200,000 yen, but is there anything I can do if such a rate is their initial offer? Also, am I expected to sign the contract while at the interview or can I put it off for a few days and think about it? I know these are probably dumb questions, but I'm kinda new to big interviews like this and want to be sure. Any other advice is more than welcome as well. |

Subsistence wages (anything less than 200K) are not acceptable. Politely turn them down unless you are willing to negotiate (they usually aren't). Nobody should work for that little, and the sheer fact that teachers used to uniformly get 250,000 on average for 2 decades here supports that.
We don't live with our mamas and sponge off them, so we shouldn't be expected to take such wages.

Ask for a few days. It's only reasonable. Any employer who refuses is just trying to bully you, and I would suspect they have something to hide. That's just me, though.

Don't talk about anime or manga or Japanese friends of the opposite sex. Be prepared for a trial lesson and English grammar test. Questions you ask should be directed at how YOU can help THEM, not vice versa (such as whether they have language lessons for you). |

not sure what your concern is? your topic title is so broad, I felt compelled to tell you... you need to work on your intro. naturally, I skip topics that don't interest me but yours needs so much work up front, I wanted to let you know.. |
