Thought it might be an interesting poll, and could be useful for newcomers to look at.

If it shows a significant number of people have been here for a long time, well, can China really be the terrible place that some posters make it out to be. If it was so bad, everybody would leave after one or two years, wouldn't they? Not that I'm trying to influence the poll results.
Appreciate that some posters have left, others have left and come back...numerous times! So the poll options might not suit everyone.

And while polls like this never stand up to scientific scrutiny, it could be interesting.

Might need to extend the range for some of us old coots. Pushing 17 years now.

+5 is sufficient, though; read "totally jaded".

Probably stay in China after my contract finishes.

I'm in the 2-5 class. The wife and I will stay here for a good while longer trying to build our savings and then go back to the States. Hopefully, in that time I won't become too "totally jaded". Laughing

The ONLY reason I'm here for almost 10 years now is because of the job. And I don't really LOVE the job, but the pay and benefits are too good. I plan on staying through the current contract and one more if they ask me. If they don't, oh well, not a big deal.

I voted 2-5 years as this is my 5th. Had a great time but it's time to head home before I become "totally jaded". It sure has been building up this year though. Mind you, I am writing this less than 12 hours after my 26 hour sitting train ride. Everything sucks right now lol.

Be interesting to see how many of the long timers have been here continuously throughout their tenure. For me, it's always been a couple of years here, split, return.

This mirrors my previous life in the little neighbor to the east. When that happens, it is time to go.

I hear you. It's such a great feeling to be out of the train station and on the bus or taxi heading toward home with the station getting smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror.

Masochistically enough, after several months, I book another ticket for the long-distance train ride and foolishly look forward to it. Twisted Evil

Warm regards,
fat_chris

Thanks John, I appreciate the nice comment.

I've just crept into the 2-5 year bracket now and its flown by. Maybe I'll also stay until I become "totally jaded"
