I applied to teach in Thailand through Lovetefl, and agency that finds jobs for people at schools in Bangkok and other places nearby. They also provide orientation and help finding accommodation. I would like to hear any GOOD points from people who got work through Lovetefl. BAD points too.
But what's it like once you actually get a job and have been there for some time? Would 30000 baht per month be okay to live on in Bangkok?
The agency gave me some details about the schools they work with (all private) but said the schools can differ a fair bit. I might have to wait 6 months before my first pay cheque.
The working day is 7:45 a.m. to 4 or 5 p.m. So it may be slightly longer than my jobs in China.
The job ad said its public and pprivate, but the interview said it's all private.

Did you not notice a huge red flag here JRjohn? Any agency that works with schools that might not pay you for up to six months is an agency that isn't concerned with the teacher's well-being, and is an organization you should stay away from. I don't think you need to know any more than that.

IF you have a degree and a UK passport then the wage is certainly sub-par (by about 30%) for entry level jobs.

If you have a degree and can be here near the end of April your chances of finding work within 30 days are about 100% with average starting salaries in the 32-36k thb range (up to 40 at some of the language academies but you work for it).

You don't need to kiss 20-30% of your salary away simply to let someone do your job search for you.

Getting placed by TEFL course providers is dodgy at best (wanna bet they insist that you need the course they are selling before then can find you a placement?). You can almost always do better without them.

If you do not have a degree then it won't matter. Any work you get will be dodgy and not have the proper visa and work permit. Take what you can get.

What was that old adage about a fool and their money soon being parted.
