I am now in my second year at a small college in Suzhou. The FAO has recently asked for me to sign a contract to stay for a third year.
My hesitancy to sign on for a third year is that I do not like a cold winter, and I am a little bored. The winters here are not really that cold, but I have spent most of my life in warmer places, and I would much rather sweat than shiver.

It is a job that I am comfortable recommending. It is very low-stress and there is a lot of free time.
My thoughts are that it might be possible to find someone here with a similar job in a warmer city.
Not sure if it would work or not, but if someone here is interested, trading jobs is something that might work out well.

The details:

4500 a month for 14 forty-minute classes a week.
But, often scheduled for only 8 to 10 classes a week.
500 a month utilities allowance
2200 a year travel money
10,000 a year airfare reimbursement.
10 month contract, includes about 6 weeks paid holiday for the Spring Festival, and other paid holidays.
Staying on campus during the summer holiday is not a problem if you sign on for the next year.
Small apartment on campus, located in a quiet area of downtown Suzhou. 24 hour access.
No money or FEC problems or delays.
Administration that leaves you alone as long as you show up for class
and there are no complaints from students.
The school has a second campus that you need to take a bus to maybe
2 or 3 times a week.
The students are 90% girls.
Easy access to Shanghai on a train that takes about 30 minutes.

If you have a similar job in a warmer city, but would like to change to a
job in Suzhou, please let me know. We might be able to work out a trade.
PM's and any questions are welcome.

It is low, but the apartment is free.
I am contracted for 14 hours a week, but currently only working 8 hours a week, so plenty of time for any type of side job.
Suzhou is cheaper than cities like Shanghai.

From what I have seen on this forum most universities in China pay about 5000 a month for 14 to 16 classes a week.
Not sure why 4500 seems so terrible, especially since I am working only
2 days a week.

Five days off a week gives you plenty of time to do 200 an hour tutoring, or go traveling.

If you dont do any socializing, traveling or going out for dinner 4500 may be enough. But I could NEVER do that! I gotta have a life here too. A little travel and steak once a week. With tutoring and my Uni job I make about 9000 and its good.

My school is seeking two foreign teachers for the term beginning Sept. 2013.
Send me a PM if you might be interested.

Did you find your warmer climate alternate gig, or are you staying on?
