Hello,
What is the situation regarding the Criminal Background Check? I am moving to Japan in a week and do not have an up to date CRB check (I should have one in a month, getting it sent from England after Disclosure Scotland process it!). What jobs are available to me without a CRB check? none at all?
I understand this is a common question but despite a lot of trawling through threads I'm not 100% sure if I have the right answers and want conformation before entering the country |

You don't need a criminal background check to work in Japan. So, every job (that you qualify for) will be available to you. |

Thank you, and typically employers don't require an apostilled degree? |

Nope! I have never heard of anyone requiring that in Japan. |

You are thinking about the requirements to work in Korea. Japan doesn't require those. You will need your degree. That's it! |

You will need to show your degree certificate to get your certificate of eligibility or visa, I believe. |

Some jobs DO require a CRB check. Interac for example. |

If you're being hired through an agency in the UK, the agency may ask you for a CRB check, but that's entirely at their discretion. As far as Japanese law is concern, I think the only "check" for criminal convictions is the box you have to check on your visa application. |

Some offices of companies might require a check (Nova, for example, required a check if you were hired in the US), this varies between offices. Interac didn't require a check when I was hired (in fact, I knew one person who got fired for sexual harassment then was hired at Interac 2 weeks later). |

I think CRBs are usually only for those people being hired by large companies while still overseas. Once you're looking for work in Japan, it doesn't seem at all common. |
