I am wondering where everyone would consider the best place for a young male first-timer to teach. Money is not a great concern for my first year as the overall experience is more important to me than savings (though I'd need to at least break even). What do you think?

Korea, Japan and Taiwan are all industrialized, somewhat western influenced countries where people are known for working really hard so, as posters above have mentioned, you probably should be looking at Southeast Asia.

If your budget allows and you're traveling light, you might consider flying into SGN [Ho Chi Minh City] and spending a couple weeks in Viet Nam. Then you could jump on a bus to Phnom Penh, go to Siem Reap, maybe Sihanoukville, cross over in Thailand and make your way toward Bangkok while hitting a beach/island or two on the way. Or you could go the other way, BKK > PP > SGN

That way you could decide for yourself.
