I was wondering if anyone had discovered the best way of transferring money to your account back home with the least amount of fees.

So far I've heard about:

Western Union and MoneyGram
Russian Bank account transfer to home bank account
Possibly using a prepaid debit card

Has anyone determined the absolute best way to send earnings back home?

I will need to do this also, so any advice is eagerly welcomed.

Have you tried expat.ru? Seems as though you might find more info there. The same goes for dentists.

Well I'm planning to put my money into a Russian bank and then withdraw money daily from an ATM on my return home.

Cole's suggestion is the easiest. But be aware, that you will probably need to tell your bank that you want to use your card abroad. Otherwise, you run the risk of it not working in your home country ATM. I think, but I'm not sure, that some banks charge extra for a card service that is international.

Why anyone would want to transfer money home, when you have paradise on your doorstep here, is a mystery to me though.... : )

This is Moscow calling. Your attempts at escape are futile!

I've the same issues, just transferred 2200 euros to my bank in Europe and got charged 35 euros commission. The drawing money out from an ATM method has worked out even more expensive for me in the past, as they give you crappy rates and then have the nerve to charge commission on top of that.

In my case, I have a creditcard which will need paying. Although I guess it would be fine to just pay it from a Russian account.
