"Furthermore, to continually castigate students for talking Chinese in class is to deny them the freedom to discuss amongst themselves the structural peculiarities of English."

Yeah, that's exactly what they're talking about. So, obviously, you've met my students. Tell me, what do you think about them?

". . . and given that you have absolutely no idea about me or my abilities . . . "

Actually, your various postings give me a pretty clear picture on what kind of (ahem) person you are!

" . . . stop patronising them, and stop making baseless judgements . . . "

I will (although I really don't patronize my students - ol' Prawn is just making it up as he goes along, isn't he?) as soon as you stop doing it here to me and most all of the other posters in this group. But I honestly don't think a person with such pomposity can do that!

(You know, I had posted in the off-topic forum that we should ignore people like Prawn. Let them have their say and we can just shake our heads in wonder at people like this. But, sadly, here I am. I just couldn't help myself and can you blame me?)

the Dean (her with a Chinese 2 year degree - but connections) tells me I am staying. BUT my students are all in hesterics because the other Chinese-English teachers tell them I am leaving. the flood of "visiting" experts has increased, of course none of them talk to me. (funny how they "visit" when I am in the classroom?) I wonder how the powers that be explain my desk and all my prep work in the office.
are some of you out there so naive that you do not talk to a foreign teacher. that you believe the Dean or the President - their lips are moving.
does this make it easy to look for another job - you betcha red rider.
the Dean lies all the time. she is known for it thoughout the province. she just got back from a recruiting trip to Xi'an, Nanjing, and Suzhou - and got teachers to come to work here. sight unseen - well, I mean the school.
but as usual I like the students.
ah, what to do? confrontation with this person will not work. last week I asked her straight out, "do I have a contract for next year?" she said, "yes." ah ha, her lips were moving!!
lips moving - she lies.
I agree with a previous poster - they is something again rumbling in Beijing to change the status of teachers to less from experts to less from back packers to less from well, not sure.
first the multi-entry Visa went the way of the wind, now no more little red book? maybe we will all become migrant workers? float from one job to the next. the employers will love it. no paper work.
smile - this is China.
