I'm sure this has been addressed before, but the search function doesn't seem to want to work for me right now. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any countries that offer 3-6 month teaching contracts. I understand that China might be an option, but I'm wondering if there are any other options out there as well. Thanks. |

If you are willing to bear the costs of your own visa and relocation AND you are "on-the-ground and in-country" you can often get a "one term" job in most of SE Asia.
If you are sitting in your living room at home and hoping for a free ticket to somewhere in return for a couple months of "dancing monkey routines" ... then good luck to you. Chances rapidly drop to "0" (even for China).

The British Council offers a few short term contacts of varying lengths some might be shorter than 3 months for summer stints. Its not easy to get work with them. Youd have to have a degree, a Trinity certificate or Celta (think they only recognise those two) and experience of about 2 years with young learners and adults. You dont have to be British but there are a few locations where youd need a British passport for visa purposes.
Im pretty sure they offer flights, accom and medical insurance for these short term contracts, but check their website for job requirements and jobs if youre interested. |

Might help to know your credentials...
Can we assume you are willing to go anywhere in the world? When? |

And are you willing to teach children or teenagers?
I'm not sure because of the username (which, as a mother, I agree with!) |

These people do short contracts, even for 3 months: http://www.langsols.com/
They used to have stuff in Saudi and Kuwait but those seem to have dried up, probably a victim of local companies switching contractors to keep the kick-backs fresh. Worth a try though. |

Thanks for the replies. As for my quals: I have a BA in English, will have my CELTA in hand by August (assuming all goes well), and have 2.5 years experience in South Korea teaching both children and adults (nothing to write home about, I know). I'm also currently working on my MA in linguistics, but won't have that for another year or so. |

I figured as much. I was just curious as to which countries hire for "one term" contracts. Since you mentioned SE Asia, I'm assuming Thailand is an option, then? |

I noticed some adds in China for 6 month contracts. But I don't know why I wouldn't necessarily trust these schools so much... I haven't tried one yet. But I've heard way to many stories from friends in China... |
