Hello lady travelers!
I've done board searches and haven't found any relating to women travel. Has anyone gone abroad to teach solo, or plans to do so? I've wanted to go abroad to teach for years but I've been held back out of fear being a young woman traveling alone, unable to find a travel partner who wants to up and leave for another country.
Any travel buddies out there? lol. Would love to hear your gals experiences. |

I have travelled all over Mexico, Central America, Cuba, Spain and Morroco alone and never had any problems. I think it is more about using common sense, trying to blend it, not call attention to yourself with dress that is radically different than local people, be careful where you go at night, and who you go with, not drinking too much, not carrying a lot of cash, that kind of thing. I actually prefer to travel alone, since it is rare to find another person who wants to do the same things you do. |

I've worked in Guatemala, Ecuador, Senegal, Rwanda and Tunisia and went to all those places alone. I've also traveled alone in France, Spain, Portugal and Mexico. I agree with BBB that traveling alone affords me the freedom to make my own plans.
Feel free to PM me if you like. |

I set out the first time as a student I was 20 years old and I guess I was too naive to worry about whether or not I was supposed to be travelling alone. That was 20 years ago. |

I showed up in Cairo at 21 without a clue. I was fine. Don't do stupid things. Single women traveling alone are not as interesting to locals as they think they are |

I find that our "interesting" factor depends very much on the country. I was extremely "interesting" to local men in Senegal and Tunisia, and I'm 63. In other countries, I haven't had this experience at all. |
