You could phrase it as 'We welcome applications from all ethnicities', but I'm not convinced of the argument of actually making any reference to it at all in your ad. May I ask black forum members, would you find such a statement ok?

Black American here - I wouldn't have any problem with this statement, especially considering how often I've seen ads for Whites Only. At least I know I'm not wasting my time. I have a co-worker from Australia, but she has Asian ancestry, so she looks Asian. She had a REALLY hard time finding a job in China.

I am with the "it's too risky" contingent. You are changing the status you have with a future colleague, to the guy that got them into this mess. Read those horror stories again. Many of them are indeed horror stories of terrible bosses who really ruin the adventure with incompetence, greed, or cruelty. But some of them are merely bubbles bursting from teachers leaving their comfort zones and not understanding that things don't always work here as they do at home. The electricity went out for many hours! They didn't give me a textbook! They told me at the last moment! Relatively minor complaints, annoying as they are. But those "horror stories" don't compare with the serious ones regarding obtaining legal status in country, stolen pay, dangerous conditions, and other serious problems.

The great guy/gal, happy to speak with a fellow foreigner instead of the Chinese FAO may have a great attitude about everything until one of those minor issues erupts. I agree with Denim-M that having a returning group of well-adjusted teachers will set a tone as well as alleviate anxiety of a newbie who may not be able to discern the minor annoyance from a real red flag. But it's a crap shoot and you will have a crap-target on your back.
