|
|
Hi,
I took my CELTA about 5 years ago but for various personal reasons have only worked for about 2 years (in teaching) since, and not recently.
I really want to get back in the game but my confidence has diminished a bit, especially in the area of exam teaching. I have almost no experience of this and most positions seem to require it. I was wondering if there are any online refresher courses I could do? I have looked online but all I can find are courses for non native speakers. Some of you will probably advise to just get back on the horse again, but I am not in the position to go abroad at the moment and there are no job prospects here!
Any ideas or advice would be great! |

To ease yourself back into some form of teaching, what about doing some volunteer teaching at one of your local nonprofit ESL refugee or literacy organizations? Additionally, you might be able to observe some of the ESL classes at your local community college---maybe even do some in-class tutoring on a voluntary basis. |

If you live in the UK you could take the UK-TEFL Advanced Course. It's a weekend course, billed as suitable for anyone with TEFL experience or a certificate. I took this course a couple of years ago as a refresher; the idea was to see if I'd still enjoy TEFL after a break. (I don't have a CELTA but I do have TEFL experience and other teaching qualifications.) The course was tiring but enjoyable, and the tutor was very approachable. I haven't returned to the field yet, but plan to do so later this year. |
