Did they still stiff them on pay as well? Apparently, Edex has been stiffing those who remained behind and didn't have classes. |

No, this wasn't true. They actually had shortened hours during Ramadan. |

The real issue with Hashim's post is that on many counts and in many cases he is right. He put it a bit bluntly, and perhaps his English also plays a part in his messages coming across a bit rough, but it is unquestionable that the international EFL business is full of runaways with a CELTA and a backpack full of faded T-shirts and torn jeans, sometimes an advanced addiction problem, no direction in life, no family and no friends. It is wrong to say that all or most EFL teachers are like that, or that all of them are like that to some extent, but the proportion of people with these characteristics is probably a lot higher than in many other professions. And, TEFL is not even a 'profession' as such, it's more like, a vocation or occupation, or, plainly, work. I wouldn't call anyone with a CELTA a professional, unless on the basis of other qualifications. But hey, there is nothing wrong with those people, and Hashim, if he doesn't like them, can avoid them, but they certainly are there all over the place. |
How is it possible that these backpackers are brought here to teach? That's the question! |

I came upon a blog being written by a male teacher from the UK and his current experiences with Ed Ex. He arrived this past summer and has had the situations of last minute moves to remote universities and confusion about housing/quality of hotels. However, he seems to have gone in with his eyes open to the issues of working for a contractor and low expectations.
Today, he posted that overall Ed Ex has exceeded all of his expectations, but he did add the caveat that it was because his expectations were low. I appreciate his 'make the best of the situation' attitude. He is a surfer, so he's looking for the right wood to try to surf the sand dunes at the edge of the small town he's been moved to! Here is the address if anyone is curious enough to check his blog out: http://saudi-season.blogspot.com/ |

The only thing that EdEx has exceeded for me is new lows in stupidity and mismanagement! EdEx has to be the worst run operation I've ever seen! |

There seem to be so many other contractors now. Why would people still go to work for Edex? People really can't find anything better? Being moved at the drop of a hat, being totally disrespected by management and students, not getting paid on time, being put in unsafe housing, not being transported to work and then getting docked for being late, not being reimbursed or paid travel expenses, not getting vacation pay: the list goes on, isn't it clear now that the odds are against you if you work for them. |

Fledex, this is what we refer to as being braindead. I don't think you and I can do much about it. People continue to make their own choices in life... |

Hi,
Do ICEAT teachers receive the 10 day holiday between semesters and for Spring Break like at other universities? The holidays this year were January 16 - 26 for midyear/between semester break and March 20 - 30 for Spring Break.
Are these times the same for ICEAT teachers and are they paid? |

They get to take off one of those breaks paid, and have to work for the other. |

With ICEAT, they are both professional development weeks, but you can take one off, and must attend the other. They are shortened hours. |
