Not my worst lesson, but maybe typical of the disorganised school principal.
Her: 'Hi, can you teach a new class of 8-year olds tomorrow? It's their first lesson. This is the course book - just start at Unit 1, lesson 1'
Me: OK, that sounds fine, no problem
[Later that evening, I study the lesson, make some notes, prepare enough material for the lesson time and more]
[Tomorrow comes - I enter the classroom and check with my teaching assistant]
Me: So it's a brand new class?
Her: No
Me: Er .. I was told it's a new class, starting at Unit 1, lesson 1
Her: No, they are on Unit 6, lesson 2 - I hope you've got everything prepared.
Me: Er ... yes of course. I'll just take a quick look at the course book again....
I'm sure many of us have been in this type of situation. At least with youngsters, it's fairly easy to think up something relevant off the top of one's head.
