I posted my resume on here and have only heard from recruiting agencies. How do you know if they are reputable and who actually pays them? |

It depends on the country in question.
In China and Korea they are pretty commonly used and the school pays a flat fee for their service. There is no advantage to doing it yourself.
In Thailand they are a bunch of blood suckers and they take a percentage of your salary (paid for by the school) for the same things you CAN do yourself.
It IS to your advantage to cut them out of the equasion.
One or the other case is common throughout Asia.
One thing GLOBALLY is NEVER (and I do mean NEVER) pay a recruiter a fee to find you a job in EFL. There are lots of ESL/EFL/TESOL jobs out there.

I agree, never pay a fee to these agencies.
In Europe, respond to advertisements, also cold call (via email) schools. Most do not use agencies. |
