| Contractors generally pay teachers, and others, on the basis of "One for you and one for me." If they bill ARAMCO for 30,000 a month - half of that goes to the teacher. |

Scot, what you post may in fact be true. I have no idea. But it doesn't change the fact that my contractor helped me get a good gig that I am happy with. They treat me well and although time will tell if that will be sustained, I just cannot understand your objection to what is in effect a perfectly reasonable and accepted way of doing business: an agency arrangement.
I am well aware that my contractor gets paid by Aramco for arranging my employment and keeping me in the country. But there is no injustice here. I, and the other contracted teachers I work with, are all perfectly capable of accepting or rejecting the offers that were made to us.
At the end of the day, if Aramco didn't give them whatever it is they get (and you have yet to provide evidence of any ratio you claim), they wouldn't have got me a job I'm happy with in the first place.
So, under the present system they win and I win. By all accounts, you won too, so perhaps it's best to either provide us with some proof or let this one slide... |

Bitter ? Not me. I am just telling you the way it works in KSA. I enjoyed my time there but only 1 year out of my 17 there was spent with a contractor. That was Adenan Kazelli who had a contract to provide teachers, enhibeers and cleaners to SAMAREC before ARAMCO gobbled it up.
You say that you byourself do not know how the contractor operates. i am telling you. if you choose to believe something else that is fine by me. I know people who believe the moon is made of cheese.
The advice I give is go direct and not through some slimeball. |

So you're saying - a person that earns (for example) 9,500 USD a month (near the top scale), the contractor will also receive that amount for each teacher on their books? |

Scot47, for someone who retired some time ago, you do spend an inordinate amount of time on this (and other) forums sharing your rather cynical view of the place. Perhaps you secretly miss Saudi??
I'm unsure, though its certainly not constructive to those of us seeking information from people who are currently there or in the recruitment/relocation process.
ok, as a general comment, for those of you currently on the ground, lets say if there are contractors paying 7-8k USD per month without including accommodation, the question is whether a) accommodation is readily available and b) this amount is enough to cover your keep on a decent compound (or outside) and enable saving.
The answer would appear to be yes? |

I spend time on here offering guidance to fellow-Terrans. Space Cadets can look after themselves.
Two years since I left KSA and I did not mind the place. In fact I rather liked it ! Unlike many who post here and loathe the place before they even go ther !
Now what does THAT do to your personality ? Going to work in a place you do not like and staying there because you love the $$$$$$$$$$$$$s while hating your students, colleagues and the admin !
I met a lot of people, including some real screwballs. The worst were those working for contaractors to ARAMCO who spen their lives consumed by the desire to be real ARAMCONS and full of resentment at being "Second-class". Go figure.
