I'm going to be travelling in Asia. I'd like to stay somewhere cheap, maybe on a beach somewhere like Thailand, and apply for jobs in China from there. All I have so far is my passport, and I will take my BA diploma with me.
Can I do this? Can I get whatever I need from embassies in Thailand or if I go somewhere else?
Can anyone recommend a good place to go?
Cheers.
This will be in September.

passport
degree (legitimate and not on a diploma mill list)
uni issued transcripts
FBI check.
Bring them all and you are good to go for just about anywhere outside of Korea (additional steps to authenticate the documents are required for work in Korea and are difficult to do when abroad).
Legitimate jobs in China will want you to have a TEFL cert (visa requirement).
Obtaining copies of your documents while abroad is time consuming and expensive. Get extras while you are home where it is usually convenient to do so and the cost is minimized.
You may need to get your "Z" visa in Hong Kong since you may not be able to get it in BKK if you are here as a tourist.
You will also need to get a medical check done at an "approved" doctor (often in the $200-300 range).
Contrary to popular myth, beaches in Thailand (that have the infrastructure you will need for a job search and access to BKK for the embassies) are not cheap.
