Schroob,

I'm in the wilds of Henan Province at a small (6K student) technical school. This is a pretty much anything goes kind of place so I don't think anyone but the students will care about this.

Given the end of the semester rush, I won't get this built or bought until this summer. Next fall should be interesting.

BTW: There is still an opening here. This place has the worst time attracting teachers yet it is a pretty easy place to work.

I'm interested in the device too but the stated range is so broad (3-15 metres). If it ends up being 3m it won't affect the students at the back of the room. Or is this a range you can adjust yourself? Anyone know how precise it is? (I admit I only took a very quick glance at the page earlier in the day.)

I'd love to attach one to a Roomba and send it up and down the corridor. Most of the classes I teach are on the same floor of the same building so too many 'random' phones failures may even make the students give up eventually. Razz

Why bother building? Just order it from HK.

You can also get one on Taobao. Searching in English turned up one result, cost 598. Searching in Chinese may get more results.

You're most likely going to get complaints from the janitorial staff about their job stability.

On the first day of classes I tell my students that all their phones must be on silent, and that I will take away any phones that I hear.

Do you guys not do the same thing ?

Very rarely do I ever hear a cell phone in my classes.
I do see them sending an occasional message , but I will walk over to read their messages if I observe that they are not paying attention in class.

Yeah, I was thinking of other staff in the building getting upset at the foreigner illegally jamming the signal to their device. If they know it is you it would be easy for them to cause a heap of trouble for you. Or what about a student who realizes what you are doing and has some guanxi.

If you can imagine the amount of business (for what you are desiring to jam) unimportant and (for other potential casualties in you scheme) important, then you might see the potential downside of your plan.

Main point is be careful, as long as you are not jamming my signal I don't really care.

Laughing .... NO WONDER this thread is 3 pages long!

You people have hijacked the "PhDs for 2,000USD a Month" thread, in favor of discussing nefarious, miserly, and under-handed ways of becoming a bunch of "BIG BROTHERS"! Laughing

Most of the "Free World" wants China to open up even more (and faster), and yet you bunch of Stooges are plotting to shut 'er down even more! Surprised What the H3LL?

I just knew there was not three pages worth of "Brainiacs" working on full PhDs here in the PRC (and if there are, they're smart enough to stay away from this forum)! ... LMAO! Razz

Along with the thread on here about schools now not wanting teachers who don't even have just a BA this one also is pretty obscure, compared to the number of students who can't stay off their phones for 5 minutes!

IT's portable, amazing.

Imagine going into the farmer restaurant where there are groups of businessmen shouting into their phones to show everyone they're 'doing business', and clicking it on.

Everyone will then be forced to actually TALK to each other, rather than sit on their cell phones all day.

Ordered, will wait and see how effective it is.
