Having just started what I hope (yes, ... hope) will be my final 6 months in this whole business of tefl before moving into something else totally unrelated, I'm just wondering whether any of you posting here are ex-teflers (ie once were but have moved into a different area of work altogether) but still coming to dave's for visits.
I know that once I do leave this field, I'd like to visit dave's on and off to see wat developments there are.
Interested in knowing whether you have ever regretted leaving tefl or have found it less rewarding doing the work you are now.
BTW, what does one do with all the tefl stuff one has created and acquired over 28 years of tefling. I've got a trunk full of wat I personally consider to be some helpful and interesting materials and ideas. Seems a shame just to chuck it out. Any ideas ?

Auction it off (or send it to me!)!

28 years?!

May I ask "Why the change?" after such a long time in the field?

Firstly, the travelling. I've just had enough. Maybe the only travelling I want to do now is to my town centre and back.
Also, I guess its just that i dont get anything out of it anymore. Ive gone through a lot of genres of this tefl business - general english, conversation, business, technical, writing of both the academic and business and industrial typpes, CALL, IELTS and more.
wen trainees are successful, i tend to just shrug and wen they arent ... its much the same. I neither want nor need to do this but the enthusiasm for the whole field has just gone. its not right or fair to continue feeling like this and have others, especially trainees, recognise it.

I find it hard to fathom tiring of travelling. Though saying that, I haven't even started to do it, let alone do it for 28 years!

Your reasons sound justifiable, and if it's not even beginning to challenge you any more then I think that's pretty indicative that it's time to close the curtain on the whole thing.

The best of luck in whatever you do next!

Basil,

I get that way sometimes. I'm not that way now. Want to get out of
"here" and somewhere" else.

Can I have your old job in Syria?

Probably your local university TESL center would be overjoyed to get your material.

uhm,not sure about ''have", more like "apply for" . i mean , i guess, ..... wen im done with it. but ull clearly need to go through the recruitment process. its not as though i can just pass it on to you. it doesnt work like that as u must surely be aware. will let u know wen the time comes so you can apply at the most appropriate moment

Thanks, Basil, for your very reasoned and diplomatic reply to what was a very impudent and off-putting post.

While off-the-cuff, I would indeed be interested in applying through proper channels when you you are well and sure it is time to move on.

Hi Baz

Well I think its fair to say that you have at least served your apprenticeship, and after that amount of time a change is in order .Compared toyou I'm a mere upstart only about to finish my first decade at this tefl lark ,I hope that 18 years later I still have the same spark about this industry ,doubt it though ,so much bs .
All that stuff you 've got left ,auction it and tell them its for charity, the retired teachers fund (overseas branch) good luck .
