Many of the students are taking off after classes today (Friday) which means they are skipping out on their Saturday and Sunday classes - nice 5 day weekend. I figured this would happen so I planned accordingly but some of the teachers are trying to arrange when they can give them their exams.

Since planning is (supposed to be) a core skill for teachers I guess those people shouldn't have much trouble solving this problem.

True, but we were told to begin the exams this week.

Who's running your school? The students or the teachers?

Most of the teachers have probably done the same thing.

I don't think I ought to answer that.

It's only a problem for me for the Wednesday night class I have. It is a class of double majors, who, as one might expect, have busy schedules (many different majors represented.) So I have to split the class into two nights for the final exam. I feared it would be more. (Wednesday is the one day that won't be shifted to the weekend.) So I will finish on time.

It seems odd that they are making this a sixteen week semester for us, instead of 17-18 as usual. Not really complaining, mind you...

You're gonna love this. Next week is a free week with no classes. The students will study for exams scheduled the following week.
Party! Or relax, do whatever you like for a week, then grade papers.
No. We, the teachers must have office hours Saturday through Tuesday to make up the week of no classes.
Harmony, baby!
This uni is ... interesting! Fortunately I'm relocating.
I'm gonna miss my mountain bike.
Cool

I scheduled my exams about a month in advance. No whining and complaining from my students about coming to class on a weekend.

She says I treat her like a toy. She says I'm using her for fun. And to go to the store.

This was discussed last year - right?
Always leave a clear week after completion of everything, before the last day.
This means you could be announcing the exam 5 weeks before the last day.
- Announce
- Issue task
- Hear half of students
- Hear second half of students
- Clear up stragglers and mark.

I am supposed to do make up classes this week-end and next week-end. Screw that. I got all my make up classes in this week-end and I'm giving everyone 1/2 of their final. I'll give everyone the rest of their final the week of the 17th. I expect to be a few days late in turning in all my grades but so what? Any uni that is so dumb as to schedule a 1 week holiday just before or even during finals week will hardly notice my grades coming in little late.

Oh, and we were all paid late this month due to the vice president being on vacation. The lack of planning in this society is mind boggling.

I had that happen - both pay and late announced holiday.
Everyone (but FTs) knew about the holiday and were booking tickets but didn't want to say anything as it would be a face thing.
