Kichijoji!

It's the best place to live imo. It's been rated as the number 1 most desirable place to live in Tokyo, by Japanese people, for the last 5 years. Super convenient. It has everything I've ever needed in an incredible array of arcades next to the station. On the south side is Inokashira park and a zoo. I've never noticed any pollution.

The train station has the chuo/Sobu line and the Keio line. Both shinjuku and shibuya are a 13-16 minute ride away. On weekdays it's easy to move about freely but on weekends it gets pretty crowded due to the assortment of international restaurants, bars, venues, shopping and so on.

But of course I recommend you check it out online or take a day trip there to bask in its glory yourself!

You own a business in Kichijoji? You sound like you're selling something. It's a nice suburb, I agree. I'd be inclined to live there - maybe. But it's kind of too far out for me.

Inokashira Park is a great place to hang out on a weekend afternoon drinking beer and eating yakitori at Iseiya.

Were you trying to post to this discussion?

Kanto - Suburbs - the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Do you know that you actually started a new, entirely separate discussion?

I stayed at the Tokyu Inn in Kichijoji once. The station area of a night had enough hustlers that it was starting to resemble Kabuki-cho. The arcades might be good for shopping, but overall it felt too cramped and built-up a place to want to stay for long - a bit like living in a rat run.

A hamster should feel right at home, then.

I'd feel more at home in a hamster run - fresh straw, sunflower seeds, water, wheel, etc etc. Razz

My first year in Japan I taught elementary school. The kids were horrified that I would eat sunflower seeds (which are only for hamsters). I would sometimes eat some in front of them to watch them squeal and squirm.

(This may have changed- I think Kaldi has sun seeds now.)

In my ALT work, I try to make every lesson about hamsters.

I'm serious. It started as a joke, and ended up being my "trademark". Stuck for a lesson plan? Just add hamsters, and the creative juices start flowing.
