Yay! Now I can type normally again! Did everyone else get the proper characters too or did they emerge as &%+/ for you?

They look correct to me.
So what is the secret? I enabled my multi-language settings and can type in Turkish, but after I view the preview, it converts back to the gibberish.
Here's a test:
İstanbul
Bakırky
Dolmuş
They look ok to me while I'm typing, but how do they look after? |

They look fine to me on my north american laptop which is set to Canadian English... Which was not the case in the past. When I did the test before it was at school so I thought maybe there was a Turkish compatibility quirk but I guess maybe Dave enabled non-English characters. Nice not to have to worry about hitting the wrong i. |

So, if I want to get to Beyoglu (sorry forgot sp) before 7:30 am from the airport, there is some kind of bus right? I read on the lonely planet thorn tree site that it starts running at 6am .. but does anyone know how long it takes?
Or apparently there is some kind of 'light rail'? To the 'Blue Mosque'?
Any advice appreciated
Oh, and is there any non-rip off option for changing money at the airport? Stupid question, going on past travel experiences.. |

The 'light rail' is the tramway, which you can get at from the Aksaray metro station--- a short walk away.
The airport isnt bad for exchanging, as far as I can remember (it's been a while). Just be sure to count your zeroes!!! |

Cool.. so I'll be with you all tomorrow night.
What are good things to snap with my camera while I'm there? I'll only have one day for sightseeing sadly |

Just wanted to say thankyou to yaramaz and others who helped me with that. From the Turkish point of view, everything went smoothly. The Russian bureacracy was, as ever, a complete disgrace but never mind .
Ataturk was a pretty good airport to sleep in |
