Yeah, I was thinking of Istanbul as far as selection. I'm new to DVD's here, as my flatmate just bought a player recently, but he finds good DVD copies for sale, as well as rentals of interesting, alternative, or older films.

As to VCD's in Istanbul, there's an good shop in Kadıky off Baharia (sp?)Sokak. A good, frequently changing selection of alternative and older films (pretty much all in English), and the quality is as good as you'll find for VCD-- they're DVD copies, so no people walking around in front of the screen or whatever. We've only gotten 3 or 4 lousy (as in skipping) copies out of the 50 or so we've bought, and they're happy to replace them if they're bad. Also they take special orders, just it takes forever for them to come in...

Yaramaz -- you're right, Lokal rocks. Also, I was overstating the Chinese thing a bit... because my roomies insisted on drinking, which brought the tab up. My meal came to just over twenty million including a main, rice, soup, and a spring roll. So what's the name of that Korean place in Sultanahmet? I'd love to try it.

Markus -- late-August/early-September, huh? I'll be off on my inter-contract holiday (back late September) but I can guarantee you a good welcome from the others. Smile

I'll be back in the first week of september. Perhaps we should organise another yabancilar rendez vous, this time incrporating vast amounts of thai and indian etc food... One week away from going back to Canada and I'm already thinking about a fine veggie thali or a big bowl of Pho.

Sigh.

Kebab var, pide var, tom yum yok. Sad
