My current employment visa finishes at the end of August. I am told that I need to apply about 20 days before the expiry date. As coming back in early August is inconvenient in the extreme, I am wondering if I can do this earlier, e.g. in June. Can anyone throw any light on the situation?

You should contact Vadim from Liga Consulting, he will advise you.

However, I don't understand....if you are working for a company now, and wish to continue to work for them, they will do the visa extension without you having to leave the country.

If you are working for a company now and they are not rehiring you...then quit when you want to...give them their two weeks, and they will cancel your visa..at which point you can go to Vilnius or Kiev, and get another.

good luck

The school doesn't know much about it, otherwise I wouldn't be asking elsewhere.

This visa run idea is from the old days and even if it is still possible, I don't think it applies for proper employment visas (as opposed to business/tourist visas, which don't allow you work legally.

And IF you do a visa run to Vilnius, be sure to get a transit visa and temporary medical insurance for Belorus.
Be sure to have the phone number of your Embassy in Minsk in your cell.

Getting dragged off the train and having your cash taken by the border guards is not fun.

My visa finishes at around the same time and I find myself in a similar situation (holiday plans in August and can't be back to do renewal).

Apparently, it's perfectly fine to do the renewal early in order to get the new visa well in advance. I've arranged it with my employer so that I get the visa back in time to travel in Aug.
