Hi,
Does anyone have any info/experiences to share about working on a presessionnal summer course - specifically in Liverpool, Sheffield or Loughborough? Did you feel your DELTA/MA was helpful? Was the course well structured?
Any replies would be great! |

Hi, I don't know about the other summer courses but I worked on the presessional 10 week course at Loughborough University a couple of years ago. It was well organised, professional and I would recommend it. I had finished my MA just before taking the job and it was useful to have things fresh in my mind. I remember being able to try out a feedback for speaking idea I had researched in my MA. The course was well structured and materials provided, and the other teachers and staff were very supportive. |

My MA in ELT was certainly helpful, as I have returned to The University of Southampton for four straight years now and love the work, the area and the students are always on the ball. I wouldn't have got the work otherwise, I don't think. Though there are pre-sessionals about with just CELTA-qualified teachers.
Actually, at Southampton, teachers are given a curriculum outline and rather left to their own devices - with support always at hand. I like it this way. I prefer to re-use and tweak materials for the next year as I see fit.
I live in the East Midlands, and have been tempted to apply to Loughborough many times, but I value continuity on the CV.. Perhaps in a few years time.
Good to know the ten week course there seems to be organised and professional. |

I really valued the support at Loughbrough and the friendly atmosphere, it was very supportive and the best overall teaching experience I have had. All materials were provided but we were also free to use our own ideas which I liked. I think everyone either had at least an MA or were working towards one and had some University teaching experience. |
