Hi everyone!
I'd like to get some advice about the best place to take the CELTA, in terms of cost, efficiency, job search once graduated, etc...

Besides, I was also wondering about the best way to prepare it: the on line or the on site one?

Thanks a lot for your help, folks!

Your question is way too broad; it has us guessing about what you want, how much you can afford, what countries interest you, etc. So for starters, it would be helpful to know:

1) Your nationality/passport country
2) If you have at least a bachelor's degree
3) Where you expect to teach

That being said, instead of having others do the research for you, I suggest you go online to the Cambridge ESOL site and do a search on centers in the country you're interested in, can legally work in, and are qualified to work in. Then check out each center to see if the costs and services fit your needs.

You need to clarify what you mean by "prepare it."

Hi nomad Soul, thanks for replying!
I've already made some researches about Celta and I've found various worldwide locations and various fees as well...
It seems that Celta is far more expensive in the English-speaking countries.
It's quite strange especially when you realize that the total cost doesn't include the living and the visa expenses...

(I had to split the message...)
So, I'm wondering if the Celta graduates could give me some info about the place where they took it, its cost, etc...
Now, yes, I'm thinking about taking the on line Celta preparation and I'm wondering if it's as efficient and serious as the on site ones...
I hope my request is clearer this time!
Thanks again for the help!

Okay, but you still haven't answered the questions I posted.

Right! So:
_ I'm a non native English speaker holding a non English-speaking country citizenship,
_ I don't hold a bachelor nor a master degrees in Education or in English,
_ and I'm wishing to teach wherever non native English teachers are accepted...
Hope that this will answer your questions!
Thanks for your help, again!

No, it still doesn't answer my questions. Could you be more specific? Otherwise, posters on this forum end up guessing or frankly, not responding to you at all. Besides, our knowledge is limited as to where non-native speakers with non-Anglophone passports can teach.

1) Passport country:
2) Your degree major(s), if you have a degree:
3) Where you expect to teach (contingent upon your nationality):

And I still have no clue what you mean by "CELTA preparation."

A little elaboration for the OP's benefit:

1) We need to know what country your passport (or, what country or countries you have citizen ship in) because that could make a difference as to where you are legally allowed to live/work. For example, if you have a passport from an EU member country, you can live/work in another EU member country without needing an employer to sponsor a visa for you. Also, you might be eligible for a working holiday visa, depending on your country/ies of citizenship and where you want to go.

2) You said you don't have a degree in English, but do you have an undergraduate (BA/BS/etc.) degree in anything? Some countries require that you have a degree as a requirement for a visa (and in some countries, that degree can be in anything, at least for visa purposes).

3) What country/countries do you want to teach in? OR What region of the world do you want to teach in? (Latin America? South America? Western Europe? Eastern Europe? Africa? Middle East? South Asia? East Asia? Southeast Asia? -- even a continent would help us to help you)

Basically, the short answer to your question about where to take the CELTA is: Take it in whatever country you plan to teach in after you finish the course, as doing so will give you some experience with teaching students from that country, and might also help you to make connections either during your course, or through the organization that you take the CELTA course from.

,

Assuming that you have an automatic legal right to teach in that country....

I agree that to get more useful advice, you need to give us more specific info.

Thanks to you all for your help!
It's really nice from you!
In fact, I just wanted to discuss the Celta exam with other ESL teachers.
I was really surprised by the different fees and I thought that maybe someone in here would help me to understand.
I'm mainly wondering if this difference changes the course's quality or not...

(I had to split my message again... It seems that I can't post bulky messages!)
In a nutshell:
Are there any differences in the course between the expensive Celta and the cheap ones?
Is the on line Celta preparation as accurate and effective as the on site one?
And: are there any ESL teachers in here who took an on line or an on site Celta exam? If yes, could you, please, share your experience with the rest of us in this topic?

Btw: "Celta preparation" means the 4 study weeks you have to attend before taking the exam.
I think this is how the process goes, but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks again for your help!

Is there a reason you are refusing to answer everyone's questions about passport/nationality? People can help you a lot more if you just answer those. CELTA courses vary by cost due to general costs of location (it costs a lot more to run a course in downtown London versus downtown Cairo). The "best" CELTA course is usually the one taken in the same location where you want to work, to give you a head start on job contacts.

CELTA is not an exam, and the four weeks is not exam preparation. It is a four-week training course that includes a number of tasks and supervised teaching practice with feedback on how well you've done. The final score awarded to trainees take all these elements into account.

So far as where to take it, a CELTA is equal regardless of where you took it. Your personal challenges will include finding a country where you have a legal right to work which needs EFL teachers - a CELTA is not a ticket to the world, unfortunately.

Hi Santi, thanks for your help!
Well, I wanted to focus more on the Celta than on my own person, that's why I avoided to state my passport and my citizenship...
I think that these matters could be discussed in another thread.
So, you reinforced my opinion about the right place for me to take the Celta, thanks!
