Has anyone heard anything about this university? Pay, working conditions, housing, students? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to PM. Thank you in advance.

I've not yet had a response to my original expression of interest but this is helpful to know, thank you. |

Richard Harrison, whose "Keep Writing 1 & 2" and "Better Writing"
books have been recommended several times on this forum,
is the Course Coordinator for Academic English, Head
of Pre-university Programme, at GuTech.
His article on the changes in written English is
to be found on pages 16 and 17 of Oman's English language
magazine for youth (aptly named ), "Y" ...
http://www.y-oman.com/issues/216.pdf
Harrison says in this article, "One of the main things that have come about..."
Sorry, but this is what can happen when you start thinking critically...
http://bestessay.us/teaching-critical-thinking-in-the-foundation-year-programme
Nonetheless, Harrison really is a writing expert!
http://www.smartoman.com/products-a-services/education/4376-preparing-students-for-academic-english-skills--new-course-book-written-by-richard-harrison-published-by-oup
and, finally, Harrison addresses motivational issues in GUTech's
English Language classrooms in this article..

There were a number of errors in that article - other than the one you pointed out - BUT
I don't think he wrote the article... it seemed to be a report of a presentation he made somewhere. It didn't seem to be written by a native speaker and it says that it is by someone named Suzy.
The second link was also not written by him. Not clear if he wrote the third link as it is about his text. I didn't take the time to read the last link, but that one was presented as his writing.
I liked his texts for the low level Omani students.

... though obviously such thing as ''critical thinking'' is like ''love for sale'', i.e. it doesn't exist, though in modern trendy ESL palaver it sells very well, just like ''love for sale'' does in non-EFL;

This 'critical thinking' malarkey seems to be contagious! |

The German Deutsche Welle TV news agency broadcast a
feature on GUTech Muscat over a year ago.
Has GUTech relocated to a new campus recently?
Anyway, this video may be of interest to prospective employees,
in the absence of any posts from GUTech's current staff:-
