I escaped Korea a while back and came to Saudi. There are issues, but nothing that is so horrible I want to leave. I moved into a hotel apt that has 3 rooms, not including the BR. It is paid for, I also get a taxi stipend. I double and triple up on taxi's to save money. So far, no major problems here. I can complain a little, but not to much........

Great coffee at the shop in front of Carrefours at the mall next to the hotel shaped like a ship. Riyadh is not bad at all.

Dear epik_teacher and RobertinOman,

Nice to hear from people that are doing pretty well there.

Regards,
John

It is possible for some igamas to be issued without returning to your home country.
This depends upon the wasta of your employer.
I have no personal knowledge Edex.
A friend of mine never got his promised igama with them.
Another friend never got him igama from Interlink.
Neither company kept their promises about spouses.

Depends how much you want/need the money. Edex/KSU is not a great place to work, nobody is happy. But, if you are thick skinned, they do pay on time (mostly) and if you are happy to do box ticking teaching, living in poor quality accommodation, dealing with shambolic administration from both company and university, kids who are 19 going on 13 (sometimes they bring a pen!) then this could be the gig for you.

If you do go, ask for more than the original offer, and also ask the agency you go through (assuming you do) if there is a loyalty bonus for surviving the first month; seriously they were paying 2,000 dollars in September so bad was the reputation of Edex/KSU. You'll only get a single entry and single exit visa, so no little jollies to nicer places either. Riyadh is a horrible place with nothing to do other than go the malls and errr....that's about it. Staff turn over is huge, really huge. Good luck!

Dear britishsummertime,

Thank you for your comments about Edex/KSU. I have no doubt that what you posted is correct.

However, I would disagree with this:

"Riyadh is a horrible place . . ."

While I'm sure that's the case for some, or even many, people, I spent fifteen years there and that was not my experience. But then, one's feelings about Riyadh have to be both subjective and relative. I found Riyadh to be quite tolerable but I suppose it all depends on what one needs and wants.

However, it would seem that RobertinOman would agree:

"Riyadh is not bad at all."

Regards,
John

I suspect that the difference is in employer and the people one is able to socialize with... not to mention one's expectations of having your environment entertain you. Cool

Why bump up a two year old thread? There are already 2 thread about EdEx on the front page. It's a terrible company, everybody knows. As far as hobbies go, you certainly found a peculiar one.
