Some people have discussed this in the thread already, but I want to be absolutely clear.

For $4 I can go to my local Sheriff's office.... get that report instantly. ..........
I was hired to start on August 1, and I have not had a job since June 1, and cannot really afford to be out of work much past August 1.....

My employer told me that a local background check is acceptable.

wow, this is easy. spend the 4 bucks. get the instant check. scan it.
email it. employer says ok (or not ok).

why spend your time asking random strangers what works in their school
or city or province? nobody here can tell you.

Yeah get that local one ASAP and send it over. Hopefully that will be happy with that, but no amount of reassurance or expertise delivered here is going to make a bit of difference if they end up wanting the second option. A lot of the time this stuff is just jumping through hoops, and if you give them something they are happy with it. Hopefully that will be the case here, but get it done as, if not, you really want to get started on obtaining the longer, more expensive background check.

I asked 7 different teachers in my school who recently made a trip to the PSB for a new RP or a renewal. NOT ONE was asked to produce any background check at all. Each teacher got a new RP within 5 days with no problem.

By "recently" do you mean "this morning"..?

The new laws (whatever they may be) are only supposed to be coming into effect as of today.

It should be obvious to anyone who has been in China longer than all of five minutes that this will be yet another locally enforced policy that will depend entirely on what the schools FAO director and local PSB wants.

I was asked for this for the school I'm going to work for. When I told them that I had eight years of uninterrupted residence in the PRC they let it pass.

However this summer I will try to go home to get this document for future positions.

I do not believe this will ever make it into the requirements for the FEC on the federal level.

Just like everything else.

My company who wants to hire me told me that I need my criminal background check certified by the chinese consulate here in Canada.

I'm going to the consulate soon to do it. With my passport. Will the consulate require any documentation besides my passport and criminal record check?

Also, is it possible that I may have to fill out some complicated form at the consulate asking all these pointless detailed questions that really don't matter?

But do you have to wait 15 days before getting the new RP?

No - ready to collect on Monday. I've never had to wait for more than 6 working days since they brought in the visa-style RP.

I think that maybe your nationality may have some bearing on the time it takes. I'm not sure why that should be though. I've got UK passport.

Morning chaps,

Just back from a wondrous holiday and bam, this morning 'oh you need a CRB from the UK before we can renew your RP'.

Question anybody done this from China? And if yes, how? We've always done it while we've been in the UK before.

Mamba

Which province are you in might I ask. Also, I know a teacher here who had to get a disclosure for his green card. He basically had a friend in the UK do it for him and send the disclosure certificate back here to China.
