I'm thinking of teaching ESL in Southeast Asia and wondering if being in my early 60's will be a problem.

I have a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine, been in healthcare for twenty five years, written a few books and have taught at Chinese Medical Universities and Massage Schools.

Will it be a problem getting a a job preferably in Vietnam or Thailand? Is sooner better then later?

I'll take a shot at answering the OP's questions.

Regarding teaching in Thailand, some employers will hold your age against you. Most will not.

With a Master's degree, you may very well find yourself in demand regardless of your age or the field in which the grad degree was obtained.

It may or may not take you a while to find your first job, but you will find it and be offered others as time goes on.

As for teaching ESL, it is not rocket science and your life experiences to date are potentially more valuable to you and to your students than you probably recognize at the moment.

Thanks for the positive reply, some people just can't help themselves I guess from taking shots at others.

You have given some things to think about. It would still be a ways off for me and 59 now and thought maybe when I'm 62 and collecting social security so I would not have to rely on my teaching income so much.

My main objective is to be in country for my photography as I used to be a professional photojournalist years ago. It is just a bonus to be able to help others, this time by teaching english...after all that is why I got into medicine in the first place.
