Anyone thinking of teaching in Chia-yi, Taiwan please avoid this school at all costs. I assure you that this is not sour grapes and that others will also post messages. There are 2 jokers there who are not teachers and don't hold degrees. 1 was in Korea though had to leave due to his behaviour being inappropriate around children (he also left TAIWAN PREVIOUSLY). His name is Steve and is well known in Chia-yi for his weird behaviour and inappropriate comments to women and children, the other guy is called David Chan. They managed to access my e-mail and my partners, tried to film my partner andf ultimately gave death threats that the police are investigating. We hope no-one has to go through the weird situation that we have - watch this space- there is more to come about these very sick individuals - to think this pair are someones children. |

I'm not surprised to hear about this school. I almost posted a warning myself about five months ago. It had more to do with the owner than the employees.
The owner led me to beleive there was a job for me and then backtracked all over the place and then tried to say the offer was not an offer and it went on and on. Really kept me hanging until I said screw it. Glad I did now.
Really surprised to hear about David Chan. He seemed so squeeky clean and toe-the-line type of guy. |

Tell me more about this "Steve".
I was in Korea for a while, and I know of a "Steve" who every time came near the female students, they would quickly make a dash for the door for "many reasons". |

I am a foreign teacher refered in the original post as David Chan and have been working in Taiwan for almost four years. I have worked my way up the ladder at my current school (New Garden Language School) and I worked my tail off. I am now the Director of Education.
In the recent past (April 2004) two teachers were fired from our school by me and my boss for blatant disrespect of management staff. It may be clearer to say that they were trouble makers. They were a couple and tried to double team on me and the owner of the school when they didnt get their way. Since then, they have posted messages on this discussion board that are slanderous and untrue. Myself and our teaching staff take our jobs very seriously.
The User(s) "Ronaldo" is actually Mark Hanely and Wendy Davies from England.
They were fired for being trouble makers in our school and want revenge as clearly evident by the spite and randomness in their posting. They currently have a pending charge at the second precinct police station in Chia-Yi for destruction of personal property. Actually I am awaiting their return to have the authorities deal with them legally. I have two witnesses to this criminal action and evidence logged at the station. The charges have already been filed and they will be prosecuted upon returning to Taiwan if they dare come back. The pair is currently hiding out in Thailand and has been there for well over a month and a half. They call from time to time to harass us from time to time and tell my boss that they are in Hong Kong or Korea but they dont know that with the marvelous invention of caller ID, the originating country code and telephone number is displayed right on our phones as 66 for Thailand. Now they are not only trouble makers but liars.
They rented an apartment here in Chia-Yi city (Taiwan) and I co-signed on the lease so they could get it. I assisted them and offered western style hospitality to get them going when they arrived here in Taiwan. When they were fired from the school, they left with their tails between their legs and left the country ASAP. They didn't notify the landlord and I had to deal with it. When I went to "clean up" at the landlord's request, I found a number of books and stolen resources at their apartment.
These two individuals always emphasize that they are professional licensed teachers and mock those that are not licensed teachers in their home countries. I have a lot of respect for "real" teachers but a teaching license is no guarentee that any individual is a "better" teacher. Neither I nor my boss saw much professionalism from these two individual and I would be careful employing them at any EFL establishment especially as a couple. Those reading this should ask yourselves what kind of professionals would post the type of garbage above. For those that would like additional clarification/information I would be more than happy to provide any additional relevant information.
As for the attack on one of our foreign teachers (Steve). The pair didn't get along with him and tried to accuse him of being a pedophile. This is not true and is very unprofessional conduct on their part. If me or my boss feel there is anyone employed by our establishment that does anything inappropriate with our much loved kids, they will be dealt with switfly.
They didnt quit; they were fired from our school after two months of employment. NEED I SAY MORE?
I would like to express gratitude to Wonder in his above post for trying to clear my name.
