Wasn't sure if this was on or off topic, so apologies in advance if I put this in the wrong forum...

My RP is done on August 2nd. Since I have been in China, each year I've gone to the PSB on the very last day of the validity because I have only ever been given 364-day extensions. Seems to me that's the best plan of action so as to have more overall time in the country and time between final exams being finished and moving to a hypothetical new employer's location.

There's a new FAO in town and she says that the new July regs state that RPs must be renewed a month before expiration, beginning in August. This is the first I have heard of that anywhere in any form. Thing is - if I go this week, then my next RP will be done either before or during final exams next June and that would be a complete train wreck. Does anyone out there know anything about this, one way or the other?

For what it's worth, I'm in Guangdong.

Yikes, I had a further read on that link above from shanghaiexpat. It's a good thing I haven't planned my yearly summer dive trip yet. I know we always tout "this is China" whenever something mind-boggling happens, but there's no reason why it would be necessary for them to hold one's passport for 14 or 21 days instead of 7 like it had been in years past. For those of us that teach in the public education system, 21 days is a sizable portion of our summer holiday. That could ruin all kinds of plans unless you take buses and sleep at a friend's place and hope that no situation arises that requires you to produce your passport.

What if you quit a job? Your residence permit is still valid until when?

I tested these ropes before and came out ok, I have a bigger rope this time. I wonder what the outcome will be.

So far, the Beijing offers are completely idiotic. Today I had a good "fishing" day, many bites but while you reel these suckers in the recruiter antics are at play.

I just need to wait, right? Wait until what? Recruiters are a buffer zone. I am a good candidate for a job, but they want a better offer too. Work more hours, less pay, all that.

So, by waiting, I am waiting for someone to take my offer/s with lesser conditions.

This is the game folks in China. What are you willing to do without?

Residence permits don't have to be for just a year. Our school always gets the new ones issued in June, good until the end of August the following year.
I have a friend who works at another uni that always gets RPs that are good for only 6 months. Weird, but another example of TIC.
