Reading some of the recent threads on this forum has got me wondering how you, my fellow teachers, stay connected with the pulse of TESOL around the world. How do you keep up to date on the job markets around the world, and what do you do to understand what is required to work in specific countries?

I have a rather large network of friends and former classmates who I rely on for most of my information, but I also use Daves a lot to browse the job boards to get a general feel for what the market is like, as well as reading some of the other country's forums.

So what are some tips you could give me to keep myself more informed? Is any one subscribed to any publications you would recommend?

How many of you simply don't care, and focus more on understanding the local markets?

I only research the markets where I might be interested in teaching so I'm very country-specific. For example, I have no desire to teach in India, fascinating country to visit but I would not like to live there, so I have no clue as to what the market is like there or what the requirements are. However, not that long ago, I was quite interested in Oman so I just used Daves' and did Google searches to find information on it.

I'd say generally I'm the same. But I like to try to keep my finger on the pulse of the world-wide market, just in case some country throws the doors open to EFL with good salaries, like what's happened in the Middle East in the last few years.

It's interesting that you mention India, because I can see it and Africa being the next big calls for EFL teachers several years down the road.

Interesting. I can see the demand increasing, but, unfortunately, I can't see the salaries becoming competitive any time soon. If they do, that would be fantastic! I'd love to go back to Africa Cool.
