I now find myself in the OP's position.
I've read up on taking a cat to KSA, and most people agree that an import permit is needed from the Agricultural Directorate in Riyadh. Has anyone actually gotten this permit? What's the process?
TIA |

You need an Import Permit. Note without this all important document, your pet will never be allowed into the kingdom. You can get this form from the Agricultural Directorate in Riyadh (not to be confused with the Ministry of Agriculture). Fill in the details in (Arabic) and submit the same. Once you get the permit the rest of the documentation has to be done in your home country.
It would be helpful if you take a Saudi along with you. You would be required to fill in a form at the depot where you have to go to pick your pet up at the Cargo Depot. As the form will be in Arabic. |
Thanks for the info, John. I guess my question is since I'm not in Riyadh (or Saudi either), how do I get the form & then submit it? (Please don't say snail mail! ) Do you know how long it takes to get the permit.
Thanks again. |

It appears that the import permit has to be gotten on your behalf by someone in KSA.
Does anyone know of a good vet in Riyadh?
We contacted saudivets.com, but they didn't respond. |

Dear AnneSansTete,
Perhaps scot47 was suggesting that you e-mail these people mentioned in the blog:
"Also, I urge anyone in the Kingdom who has a pet, is caring for a feral or just loves animals to join our Yahoo group, Saudipets,([email protected]) to link with people who want to try and do more for the animals in KSA."
Regards,
John |

My point ? I thought that was obvious. My idea was that you could contact her and ask about arrangements for taking your familiar to the Kingdom.
At the moment I am researching the best way for you to transport your broomstick. |

Oh Scot... you silly... one just rides it over there. It is so nice to be able to avoid all those lines at the airport.

I just bought a new one when I got here.
Sorry for assuming you were being an ass. I've had more than one person tell me about all the street cats here & why do I want to bring a cat when I can just get one here- and often pointing me to the rescue people.
For the record, we did get the cat in. The vet from Life & Nature got the import permit for us & our sponsor picked it up & delivered it to the airport. Customs barely looked at it. |

| That's great. The 'just get one when you get here" line is totally bogus. People bond with their pets, they aren't like cell phones or desk lamps, you can't just replace it willy nilly. I've a cat here in KSA and wouldn't dream of leaving without it. |

I know many TEFLers who do exactly this. I've never understood how they did it...

"understood" or accepted?
My wife and I have had several cats as we have travelled all over the world. We pick them up as strays, often when they are in danger of death from disease or abuse, and we nurse them to health and love them for a few years. We know we can never take them with us and we love them all the more for that. Long before we go, we find a home for them. We have a number of great followup stories about what happened to our cats along the way. Each one lives in our memory as special. Now each one gets a chance to live in someone else's memory as special.
I take it you "undestand" what I just wrote. If you don't accept it, well, that's up to you |

Oh... touched a nerve, did I?
Obviously I am talking about the many people who pack up to go to the airport for final departure, and leave the cat standing outside in front of their door.
And you know that it happens... way too often.
