What are the major differences?
Lifestyle and job wise. UAE looks pretty good but I need a backup.
Do you need to live in compounds in Qatar?
Are there some good uni jobs?
My quals are a MA TESOL
doing a PhD TESOL, will take another 3 years to finish
5 years uni teaching experience in Japan EAP
1 in Korea
3 years high school experience
4 academic publications |

Major differences? Less to do... tiny country. No, you don't have to live on a compound, but your employer may place you in one. Lots fewer jobs and options... basically just QU and the branches of US and other universities in University City - which rarely advertise as they bring most of their teachers from their home countries.

Because employers tend to rent bulk accomodation (whole buildings or compounds) for employees. Hence there are more compounds vs smaller standalone villas available. |

Just in case it raises your expectations, it is very rare for a TEFLer to get a "villa" anywhere in the Gulf. A villa is the term used for a stand alone house. Some teaching couples with more than a couple kids will often be able to negotiate a larger housing allowance in order to rent one. But reality is that 90+% of us will be in flats... either spread around the area or in clusters that one could call a "compound." Depends on how housing development has moved in the particular area.
