Hello everyone,
The company I've been speaking with finally got back to me about an offer. Intelbridge Corp. Limited will be offering me 8,000 yuen monthly plus commission based off of performance. I will be working in the Beijing area. This contract is for one year. I will also have the option of going elsewhere later on. I will be working 35 hours a week. They are also paying for all travel expenses, up to 2,000 yuen housing allowance or free housing in their residence apartment. I will also have medical insurance. What do you all think? I have very little teaching experience and no certifications. All I have is a bachelor's degree. Thank you for your input!

Need more info......
What city? How many hours / days work per week? Is the free housing single or shared? Will you just be working in the one place or multiple locations? Z visa? Paid vacation? How much? |

"We are so sorry, but your performance is slightly below the level at which we could pay you any commission".
I could never be comfortable with a situation like that. One possibly bogus complaint from a student, and your salary is affected, no thank you.
35 hours a week ? You may not have any energy or time left over for any type of social life. How many of those hours are weekend and evening hours ? All of them ? |

I second the above sentiments. If this is a private school that has offered you this contract, just run away as fast as possible. Thirty-five hours for a skimpy 8,000 rmb? Pfffft.
If you have a degree, that's an even greater insult. |

God, I hope that doesn't catch on. Remember "My bad"? Just as cringe-inducing.
This isn't a good contract, OP. |

It will be tough to get a job in Beijing with no teaching quals or experience. That's why you'll mostly be offered jobs like this (which as people have pointed out quite correctly you should walk away from).
What about other cities? (Not Shanghai; the same as Beijing, you need exp / quals and the cost of living is high). |

No, just say no. If it was 10-15 hours a week maybe, but 35, no. Even to a non-certified, inexperienced person, this is an insult.
Out of curiosity, what would be the max commission you could make? |

10,000rmb a month for a 35 working week and then you have to pay for your own accommodation. This offer is terrible! |

Thanks for the edit....agree with the others though...depending on the location of the school you may end up losing 3+k / month in rent, factor in commute time, and office hours which many private schools are notorious for and you could be up to 45 hours for what is effectively a 6,500rmb salary after rent, bills, transport costs.
45 hours for 6,500rmb here, or 16 hours for 6,000rmb at a uni gig. Up to you...... |

Have you contacted any of the current foreign teachers at the school ?
They would probably be the best people to ask, and if the school refuses to give you their contact info, then you have your next big red flag.
ETA: Seems as though Intelbridge is just a recruiting agency, not a school.
Have they given you any info about the school ?
At 35 hours a week you might be teaching at several schools spread around the city.

You're missing the point. You need at least a certain amount of money and free time to enjoy the experience.
I think your attitude is right, but the people replying to you are not all about the money. That's not the only problem.
It;'s just that that's the only real information you provided us. Using a recruiter is a big mistake / risk.
Honestly, if you ignore us, you're going to have a horrible experience, and you'll only have yourself to blame.
If they're such a great company, why have they just changed their name from Storyple Corp Limited? Lots of recruiters change their company names on a regular basis. Want to have a guess why?
At least change the title of this thread to 'I'm a gullible idiot. Please validate me'. |

Why ask for feedback if you just going to ignore all of the solid advice I have seen here? |

I missed the fact this was an agency "job".
The only experience your going to have working for an AGENCY is mental pain and anguish followed by a deep hate for the entire country and it's people. I suppose you will be coming on a tourist visa, don't worry that can all be sorted out later. |
